South Hutchinson Island Florida

Thursday, March 7

We drove 6 hours from Savannah to South Hutchinson Island where met up with our friends, Roger and Anne Stimson. After unloading our gear, we got a first class tour of the complex where they rent a unit for a month.

4200 building

Views from their unit ~

A stroll on the beach

And now the proof that we have truly arrived ~

< the social security check is in the mail,
< we are in a gated community in Florida,
< playing shuffle board !!!

Trying to figure out the rules ~ can it be that difficult ??

All this fun and we didn't even arrive until 3:30!

Friday, March 8

We awoke in time to catch our first sunrise.

Roger and Anne's unit has a great location for views of the ocean and the sunrise.

After a delightful breakfast on the balcony,

we all headed out for a bike ride.

Rather than cart our bikes half way around the country, we elected to rent them during our stay in Florida.
We rode down to the jetty where we spotted two dolphin (the day before Roger and Anne saw a manatee) and several pelicans.

Then we stopped for lunch at

We made it back in time to sit at the pool for an hour before our tee time.
What a great day. This is the life!

Saturday, March 9

Just more of the good life ~

Saturday morning we went to the Farmer's market in Ft Pierce. Obviously a big deal around these parts ~ it was very crowded. Merchandise vendors, food vendors and happy shoppers!

Next, another round of golf at noon.

A late lunch at Roger's favorite biker bar, Archie's. (Roger and Anne parked their bikes along with the big Harley hogs.)

Then a walk on the beach to cap off a great day. The waves were high due to the storm up in New England.

Finding all sorts of interesting things.

We went to bed early because Roger INSISTED on golfing at 8:30 AM (after losing an hour of sleep due to the clock change)

Sunday, March 10
This is really tough ~ but we were forced to wake to another beautiful sunrise. (no we're not just using the same pictures over and over)

We'd like to say after our golf lessons at home and playing here that we are improving ~ the jury is still out ~ but we're having tons of fun! Anne has us all working on our "ringer" scores and they are improving somewhat. Lynn had her first par ever today!

The 9 hole, par 3 course snakes through the condo complexes and Lynn has only hit a building once!

Then Chuck's for dinner.

Located along the Seaway between North and South Hutchinson Island the view was beautiful. Nothing could have been better than sitting on the deck watching the dolphin swim by.

Yes, those are dolphin!

Our day ended with VERY exciting news, our niece Kim called to tell us she is engaged!

Monday, March 11

Hello Sunshine!!!

Today started with about a 10 mile bike ride back to the pier in search of the manatee. No luck, but the friendly pelican were back and obliged us with posing for photos.

We stopped along the way at the public beach ~

then continued on to Bear Point sanctuary. We actually explored this area yesterday as well and got some great pictures of herons but they somehow disappeared from our camera.?? We looked again today in the same places but to no avail. It is a great place to explore so we didn't mind the return trip.

Riding along the trail ~

Mangrove trees need to keep their trunks and leaves above the water line therefore we get to see their cool twisted root system. The Indian River runs parallel to the trail and deposits water into this wildlife sanctuary.

Great places to watch for birds.

Monday also provided us with the perfect weather to sit on the beach

~ and then the pool and hot tub

~ read a few chapters

 and solve those word puzzles

Dinner at 12A Buoy ended our day.

Tuesday, March 12

Alas our last day here. Household duties prevail. Time to do the laundry, repack as we prepare to continue our journey.
As usual the sun treated us to a beautiful "good morning.

.

We took a bike ride to the pier in search of the elusive manatee. Lots of fishermen and big surf but no manatee.

We went for a final swim at the pool but it started to sprinkle so we went back, played dominos and had hot chocolate chip cookies.

We played our final round of golf and then toasted a GREAT week!
