After leaving Alexandria, on Friday afternoon, we drove 2 1/2 hrs to Williamsburg where we met up with John's old navy buddy Glenn Schuster and his wife, Marsha.

We spent the weekend with them at their second home, their townhouse in Williamsburg. (Their main residence is in the Baltimore MD area).

After getting situated we headed down to DOG street (Duke of Glouster) to snoop around a few of the shops that were open. It didn't take long before John found the Peanut Shop that we remembered from our last visit.

They are very generous with the samples.
Giving Lynn's knee a rest, Glenn took us on a driving tour of other areas, including the wonderful parking area of New Town.
After a restful night we were ready for another day of sightseeing. For some reason Glenn was insistent on starting the day at the town square. Upon arrival we found out why, we were immediately put in the stockade
(guess it wasn't such a great night after all).

We thought we might be stuck there all day but Marsha took pity and let us out.

We strolled through the village and bid bonjour to The Marguis de Lafayette while he was exercising his white horse.

Next we spoke to one of the carriage drivers and met his team of horses that have driven many famous people during their visits to Williamsburg, including the queen.

Then we ended up at the exclusive Williamsburg Inn where we visited the gift shop and warmed by the fire (that's as much as we could afford).
From there we continued onto Yorktown to see the historic area and battlefield.

John had a "heart to heart" with Generals Washington and DeGrasse along the waterfront.
Then we stopped at the visitor center where John was able to add a stamp to his National Parks Passport and watched the informational movie. Since it was only 37 degrees and Glenn thought he saw snow flakes we decided we didn't need to take the walking tour of the battlefield .

Victory Monument ~ erected to commemorate the American/French alliance in defeating the British in the last battle of the Revolutionary War.
We ended our day with dinner at Glenn's favorite Williamsburg restaurant, Sal's, where all the "locals" go.

Sunday was a travel day so we just got up, said our good byes and hit the road.
Being the curious travelers we are, we had stop to see what a "wawa" was ~ just your typical convenient store with gas
~ but "Wawa" really? For those of you really following along ~ we know you're dying to hear how the playoffs turned out in Alexandria. Really, March Maddness has nothing on this household. Well, first on Saturday, Zachary's team played a hard fought game against the only undefeated team. The sad news is they lost 12 - 8 but the exciting news is that Zachary scored all 8 points. He was very proud to have gotten his first opportunity to shoot foul shots and he made all four.
Caitlin won her 7:30 am indoor soccer game on Sunday and then she won her basketball game at noon 13 - 11. Sooooo, now her basketball team gets to play in the next round again on Monday.
By 1:00 we were in South Carolina, the sun was out and the temperature was rising, slightly ~ a whopping 47 degrees. It felt warmer with the bright sunshine.

So, we had been watching the billboards for miles and had to stop at South of the Boarder ~ another tourist trinket trap ~ but a must stop just like Wall Drugs out west.

Lynn & Pedro
Tired of driving on I95, we decided to take a little detour and drive through
Myrtle Beach.

We drove along "hotel row" and tried to imagine this place during the peak of the tourist season.

We parked and walked along the beach a little then continued down Rt 17 on our way to Charleston.
From the looks of things as we continue south, their answer to Wegmans ~ is Piggly Wiggly

Leaving Myrtle Beach the tripometer turned 1000 miles.
We arrived in Charleston SC around 5:30 and checked into the Hampton Inn. Then walked to the Bistro down the street for some dinner and called it a day.

Oh! I LOVE Charleston! Thanks for the sports update - I WAS wondering how they did!
